There is a land where imagination gets down to work, where ideas become reality
and turn into objects; a place where thoughts stand close to production, and sales to stories and relations.
This is not fiction, it is the fantastic and
everyday reality, which nobody sees any longer, just because it is always under our noses.
This place is the “Infinity City”, a continuum of men, women, firms, shops, exhibitions, starting from Milan and Brianza and going on to Varese, Como, Lecco, Bergamo.
A territory that all the world envies and estimates, where the most refined design products come from, for furnishing houses, lighting rooms, dressing
people, becoming elements of cars, motorbikes, planes, engines…
This is Milan and its province, which has been the synonym of design all over the world for over 50 years.
With the aim of underlining this strength the most, the Province of Milan is promoting MILANOMADEINDESIGN, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of
Milan, the Region of Lombardy and other institutional and commercial partners.
MILANOMADEINDESIGN is an important show-event taking place in New York, at the
Milk Gallery (450 West, 15thStreet), from the 18th May to the 10th June 2006. In
the same period the International Contemporary Furniture Fair will be launched,
also hosting the Milanese Salone del Mobile.
New York will be only the first stop of this “travelling exhibition”, since it
has also been planned to land in other American cities, in Toronto (Canada) and
in Asia.
MILANOMADEINDESIGN will be a special occasion for Milan, to promote not only its
design skills, celebrated all over the world, but above all the territory that
generates it.
Design is the metaphor of the characterizing and special mix of the Milanese
urban region: the strict association of creativity sills and high quality
manufacturing production.
The exhibition aims at confirming the Milanese leadership in design, but also at
promoting at international level the Milan-System, together with its firms, its
designers and its unique peculiarities.
In the show, there will be over 120 design objects – selected by a Scientific
Committee chaired by Gillo Dorfles and coordinated by Aldo Colonetti – including
the models of the craftsman and artist Giovanni Sacchi and the die of a work of
Arnaldo Pomodoro (one of whose sculptures stands out nearby the United Nations
Headquarters in New York), together with the faces of designers, craftsmen and
entrepreneurs, the places of production, and the brands of Lombard companies.
The set design of the exhibition will be made by Studio Origoni & Steiner, also
in charge of the sets of Renzo Piano’s all over the world. Studio Azzurro, a
very famous group of Milanese multimedia artists, will realise an ad hoc
installation to allow visitors to get in contact and interact with the territory
of Milan and Brianza.
Two publications will be printed for the event: MILANOMADEINDESIGN Directory,
describing the Milanese territory, and MILANOMADEINDESIGN Exhibition, a
promoting tool of all the Milanese resources and design companies, edited by
Politecnico di Milano.
New Yorkers will also meet some of the most famous Milanese protagonists: a
crammed program of events will be organised by Milano Metropoli Development
Agency in collaboration with the Italian Cultural Institute of New York and the
Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti of Milan.
Among all the meetings the food events are to be pinpointed, where the food
innovation during the last years will be analysed, considering its process of
creation and design, very similar to the one of objects.
