Ferrari to help Olympic teams

Italian sports carmaker and race team Ferrari will lend its knowhow to help Italian teams competing in the Olympics.

Rome, February 24 - The initiative became official on Monday with the presentation of a joint team project entitled 'Together to Win' involving Ferrari and the Italian Olympic Committee Coni, which is also the sports authority in Italy.

The project will see Ferrari offering its research and technology experience to help boost the performance of Italian teams in Olympic events.

''If there is even an iota of Ferrari in the (Olympic) victories of (Italian) athletes and federations we will be proud and honored,'' Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo said at the presentation. The initiative will focus primarily on winter sports but some events in the summer games will also be part of the program.

Among the winter events, Ferrari will lend its technology and knowhow to such sports as luge, bobsleigh, skeleton and skating.

For the summer Olympics, Ferrari will initially lend a hand for rowing and canoeing, while in the future it will be involved in cycling, sailing and tennis. 'Together to Win' is the evolution of contacts between Coni and Ferrari during the Turin 2006 Winter games. Turin is the home of Ferrari's parent company Fiat.
